In the not so eco-friendly world of smartphones, the Nothing Phone 2 has entered the chat with its distinctive reputation and impressive specifications. Following the success of its predecessor, the Nothing Phone 1, this device aims to elevate the user experience even further. But with so many options available, is the Nothing Phone 2 the right choice for you? In this blog, we’ll delve into its specifications, design enhancements, and availability in the UK, helping you decide if it’s worth your investment.
It’s safe to say that the Nothing Phone 2 is packed with some impressive technology especially for a mobile phone that isn’t positioned as a flagship. It features a powerful processor, respectable RAM and a noteworthy display. So whether you’re gaming, streaming or multitasking, this phone promises to deliver a smooth and responsive performance. We can’t forget to mention that the camera has had an upgrade, ensuring you don’t fall short when trying to capture crisp, vibrant photos in any lighting condition. Take a closer look here:

✅Internal: 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM
✅Released: July 2023 with Nothing OS 2.0
Despite it including all of these great features, there are a few things it falls short on. If you are looking for a phone to last you quite a while, then this may not be the right choice purely because it only has 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches every 2 months based on the year of release. This means that at the time of writing this, it only has about 2 years of support left which is miles behind in comparison to other Android phones on the market. In addition to this, there has been no improvements to the IP rating since the Nothing Phone 1, providing a not so impressive IP54 rating…
In terms of design, the Nothing Phone 2 has a few noticeable upgrades in comparison to its predecessor, with a sleek refined finish it feels premium once in your hand. Of course, it still has its signature transparent back, showcasing the internal components which in our opinion is what sets it apart physically from other popular smartphones on the market right now.
Not only does it look good, but Nothing have gone the extra mile to incorporate:
🌍100% aluminium mid-frame, buttons and sim tray tip
🌍80% of plastic parts are made with recycled and bio-based materials
🌍100% recycled tin used on 9 circuit boards
🌍100% recycled copper foils for the main board
🌍Over 90% recycled steel for all 28 steel stamping parts
🌍The packaging is plastic free, Over 60% recycled fibre
🌍Zero landfill manufacturing - no waste from the assembling process ends up in landfill
🌍100% renewable energy manufacturing - The final assembly plant and the recycled aluminium production plant use 100% renewable energy
🌍Carbon footprint: 53.45kg.
The Nothing Phone 2 comes in white or dark grey finish and has a new operating system and a revamped version of its Glyph Interface, meaning that it lights up to notify the user if they are receiving a call or works as an indicator when charging. However, it’s not just limited to that, the Glyph Interface has an increased number of LED parts in comparison to the Nothing Phone 1 allowing you to customise in ways such as having light notifications for selected contacts or apps and stay on until you’ve managed to respond.
When the Nothing Phone 2 was initially released in July 2023, it was priced at a competitive £629 but, you can now purchase it from the official website for around £479. For a device that offers as much as it does, whilst still being modern and stylish, we think this is quite a good deal but falls short with 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates based on the year of release.
When the Nothing Phone 1 was released, we had high hopes to see what the Nothing portfolio was going to offer but unfortunately, we're pretty underwhelmed. The caseless design is what caught out eye last time and we felt it was a refreshing alternative to the oversaturated smartphone market and the Nothing Phone 2 didn't exceed this. Although, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is a big step up and impressive for the price point as well as the care taken to make the phone as eco-friendly as possible, to our disappointment, this was not consistent when it came to longevity with only 3 years of update support. All-in-all, it's a good phone, with decent battery life and camera features, however for those looking for a device purely for longevity in terms of support and general wear and tear, then this device may not be for you.
